Joseph Osuigwe
Chidiebere is an anti-human trafficking advocate, educator, author, and
gender equality champion. His interests include: protecting women’s right, contributing to
building a world without human trafficking, gender-based violence and
violence against children in Africa; peace keeping, providing educational
support to vulnerable girls/children; and diplomacy. He is a graduate of Education Mathematics
from University of Nigeria Nsukka and has taught in schools for more than 6
years.
During his National
Youth Service(NYSC) in Abuja, he taught over 1900 teenagers in 5 communities
on how to prevent sex trafficking and violence against women. As part of his
community development projects, he published his book titled: “Maximizing
the Brain Power” and donated it to 90 secondary and tertiary schools in
Imo State, Lagos, and Abuja. He is a 2013/2014 National Youth Service award
winner for community project on anti-human trafficking and education.
Joseph Osuigwe has led
his team to organize World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, World Day
Against Child Labour, International Day for the Elimination of Violence
Against Women, and World Book Day. In
2013, he assisted is empowering 147 survivors of sex trafficking and repented
sex workers in Abuja, Nigeria.
In 2015, He started The
Academy for Prevention of Human Trafficking and Other Related Matters
(TAPHOM), to raise young people as advocates who will be in the forefront of
combating human trafficking, gender-based violence and other related matters.
Mr. Osuigwe is the
founder of Devatop Centre for Africa Development, a youth-based non profit
organization which focuses on combating human trafficking, gender-based
violence, educational empowerment and youth development. He has engaged over 100 women, young people,
educators, journalists, social workers and legal practitioners in combating
human trafficking and gender-based violence.
He is also the co-author
of Anti-Human Trafficking Advocacy Booklet (an e-advocacy toolkit for
advocates). He is currently working on publishing the following 4 books
