Register to Attend Anti-Human
Trafficking Advocacy Training - Lagos State
Slavery was abolished more than 150
years ago, but there exist more people in the modern slavery than any other
time in human history. Human trafficking is the second largest crime industry
in the world with a yearly income of $32 billion dollars generated from the
exploitation of 27 million victims. According
to Global Slavery Index Report 2013, Nigeria has 701, 032 victims and is among ten countries
with highest estimated number of victims of human trafficking while the 2014
report shows that Nigeria has 834,200
victims.
There is hardly
any family that is not touched by the effect of human trafficking, rape,
violence against children, violence against women, gender inequality, and
others.
Edmund Burke
said, “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good people to
do nothing”; and Canadian writer and journalist Dr. Reuven Bulka remarked “If
we don’t stand up for this and these atrocities continue to happen, we can’t
justify ourselves, and we can’t explain to our kids how we were silent when
this thing happened.”
We need more
people that will do something to combat or prevent human trafficking. There is
an urgent need to raise more advocates and trainers who will be in the
forefront of combating human trafficking, gender-based violence, rape, violence
against women & children. We need passionate people to take strategic
actions against these evils in their communities and states. However, no one
needs to wait till he/she is directly touched by effects of these human rights
abuses before taking action.
Hence, Devatop Centre for Africa Development
(the operator of The Academy for Prevention of Human Trafficking and Other
Related Matters) in partnership with Infinity Foundation, Fight
Against Child Trafficking and Walk
Against Rape plan to train 50 anti-human trafficking advocates in Lagos
state, who will be in the forefront of combating human trafficking and other
related matters.
The training is
meant for human right activists, youth, women,
educators, journalists, tertiary students, legal practitioners, law enforcement
agents, religious leaders, medical/health professionals, and media
professionals.
