Project Pink Blue Screened 294 People During World Cancer Day and Called for Establishment of National Agency on Cancer Control

Project PINK BLUE has called on the Federal Government to establish a National Agency on Cancer Control, to ameliorate the pains of cancer patients, reduce cancer deaths and cancer incidence.

The Executive Director of Project PINK BLUE, Runcie C.W. Chidebe, made the call while addressing newsmen after the World Cancer Day walk. Chidebe said, “Though more people are affected by cancer in western countries compared to sub-Saharan Africa, but, more people die of the disease in sub-Saharan Africa, especially in Nigeria”.

According to him, “It is not proper that in a country of over 160million people, we have only two treatment centres that are functional. The government is doing something, but, it needs to do more, Hon. Muhammed Usman sponsored the bill for the establishment of an agency for cancer control. If that bill passes through and gets the president’s assent, there would be an improvement in cancer survivorship, more awareness and significant reduction in the prevalence of cancer and cancer deaths in Nigeria”.

World Cancer Day is commemorated globally by millions of people across world every 4^thFebruary.

During this year's World Cancer Day, 132 women were screened on breast cancer, 103 screened on cervical cancer and 59 men on prostrate cancer. 


Project PINK BLUE is an NGO engaged in cancer awareness, free screenings, support to people battling with cancer, fundraising, and patient navigation. During last year’s World Cancer Day, the organization raised N5.5million in cash and N9million in drug support through Pink Oak to support Comfort Oyayi Daniel a breast cancer patient. She was also at the walk.

WESA pays Courtesy Visit to Executive Governor of Kogi State.

The WESA executive director, Amb. Bridget Oyiza was on a courtesy visit to the 4th Executive Governor of Kogi State His Excellency, Alh. Yahaya Adoza Bello  to discuss on women empowerment.

The founder, Amb. Bridget Oyiza drew his attention on the importance of collaborating with stakeholders(civil organizations) to enable them carry out activities of great benefit to women of Kogi state and the society at large.

Ambassador Bridget told reporters, "to actualize vision 2030 of the SDG's we at WESA believe that the key to a sustainable development, is through empowerment and engaging Women. We seek his support to make it a reality. His Excellency gave us a warm reception and commended our effort in making a difference and encourage us to do more, as the world will be a better place if only we join hands with the government"

She briefed His Excellency on the objectives of WESA ,as well as her various activities undertaken to empower Widows in Kogi State, and some part of Nigeria.

In his response, His Excellency warmly appreciated the WESA Foundation, and her executive director Miss Bridget Oyiza Isa for their kind and humanitarian services ,which has touched the lives of many women,as such has done Kogi State proud. He described the WESA Founder as a role model and a personality worthy of emulation. His Excellency concluded by pledging  support of his Government for WESA through the office of Her Excellency, and the Kogi State Ministry of Women Affairs.

It is also important to recall that on 28th December 2016, WESA empowered more than 39 widows in Okene, the Kogi Central on skill acquisition(Production of Liquid soap, Coconut oil, Petroleum Jelly, Cake, Puf-Puf, etc)

Devatop equips teenagers under her Student Enhancement Programme (STEP)

The world is facing more challenges today than ever before, and young people need to be equipped to face these realities. The world requires people with creative mind, values, passion, vision, ideas, community spirit, and right attitude to stand in the gap. Academic grades and educations are not enough preparation for students to meet the needs of 21^st century.

Hence, Devatop International Services, a social enterprise that provides educational services and products to community schools, created Students Enhancement Programme (STEP) to bridge these gaps.

Student Enhancement Programme (STEP) is an innovative coaching programme designed to equip young people in secondary and tertiary schools with values, skills, and mentality which will make them become more effective, value-driven and serve as agents of national development. It empowers students to meet the demands of the global world and face challenges of the 21^st century. It guides participants to developing their vision, talents, gifts and maximize their creative potentials.

Partners and philanthropists offered more than N20, 000 scholarships each to 15 secondary students from to participate in the three weeks (weekend) programme.

During the three weekend training, participates learnt: How to discover their vision,  discover their talents,  develop their creativity, character development, things to do before leaving secondary school, things to do before entering university, time management, personal security management, national development.

The facilitators include Mr. Joseph Osuigwe, initiator of STEP; Agha A. Agba, a social worker and project director of Project Pink Blue; Abdulahi Idris; Director, BookmySchool; and Jane Imafidor, Programme Director of Hrelief foundation.

Sadiya Ahmed, a participant of STEP said, “during the training, I have discovered my talents, vision, and started managing my time effectively. I have been equipped on how to do a community service”.

Another participant, Ni’matulla Suleiman said she has learnt how to prioritize set goals, actualize her goals, and how to maximize her creativity.

All the participants did community service before they concluded their course. They were also mandated to do a group project’, like students’ empowerment seminar in school which will give each of the chances of winning an award and cash prize. During the seminar, all the participants will be celebrated and given certificates of merit. 

The initiator, Joseph Osuigwe stated that STEP is one of the services of Devatop International Services to supporting students and schools. He assured the participants of post-training mentorship and support to enable them harness their full potentials. According to him, Devatop International Services will continue to render quality consultancy services to schools across Nigeria, and appealed to companies and organizations to provide scholarships for young people to be coached through Students Enhancement Programme (STEP).

Devatop Centre for Africa Development and BookmySchool celebrate Children's' Day

Here in Nigeria, May 27 of every year is dedicated  to celebrate children. The choice of this year’s theme “Protecting the Right of the Child in the face of violence and insecurity; End child marriage could not have come at a better time; we are currently faced with so many challenges as a nation. 

“The Children’s Day offers the opportunity to highlight the significant pledges made by the Federal Government, NGOs, religious groups and the media to join hands to end violence against children.

“It calls for renewed efforts by all stakeholders to turn the commitments they made into action for children,” it said. A National Violence against Children Survey conducted in 2014 revealed that there was prevalence of sexual, physical and emotional violence suffered by children in the country.

Devatop Centre for Africa Development in partnership with BookmySchool reached out to 300 students at Federal Government College Kwali Council Area, Federal Capital Territory. They were enlightened on career choice and how to combat violence against children. Apart from 400 books distributed to the students, over 1000 books and teaching materials were donated to the school to equip their library.

 40% percent of the beneficiaries were children affected by Boko Haram insurgency in the North-east of Nigeria.

Linus Okorie, A Nigerian Leadership Doctor

Mr. Linus Okorie is an attitude and leadership development consultant with over 20 years’ experience and a passion to develop young people individuals, companies and nations.

He was born in Cameroun on 30 April, 1974 to Pa Linus.  He is the president and founder of Guardians of the Nations International, a nonprofit leadership development organization, based in Federal Capital Territory, Nigeria.  He is a conference speaker and a regular guest in many print media, radio, and television platforms across Nigeria. Nigeria's renowned youth leader; Amb. Sunday-Chibuzo Okereke wins triple awards at the just concluded President Obama's Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI), Regional Leadership Center-Accra. Amb. Okereke is the Regional Representative (West Africa), African Union Chapter (AUC) a continental youth body that is focused on implementing the African Union Agenda 2063. Okereke whose quality of representation, participation, excellence, and delivery skills was described as excellent, resourceful and great show of quality leadership by the organisers; received the award of : The YALI SPIRIT OF LEADERSHIP, MOST INTERACTIVE  PARTICIPANT and was conferred with the highest honour of YALI-RLC... The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) was launched by President of the United States Barack Obama as a signature effort to invest in the next generation of African leaders; which began in 2014, with the mandate to empower young people through academic coursework, leadership training, and networking. The need to invest in grooming strong, results-oriented leaders comes out of the statistics: nearly 1 in 3 Africans are between the ages of 10 and 24, and approximately 60% of Africa’s total population is below the age of 35. Who will empower and lead these young Africans? Who will shape the future of business and entrepreneurship, civic leadership, and public policy management? In order to answer these questions, YALI promotes three models designed to identify and empower young leaders: the YALI Mandela Washington Fellowship, YALI Network and now the establishment of Regional Leadership Centers across Africa.

Supporting this progress, the Accra Regional Leadership Centre (RLC), a part of President Obama’s Young African Leadership Initiative (YALI),  offers an innovative and game changing leadership training program in Africa. The program is hosted by Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA),  and with Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON) as Nigeria's Campus.

The five weeks long  programme featured trainings in: Visioning & Motive for Leadership; effective communication; emotional intelligence; leadership & resilience; personal statement; culture & leadership; leading change & dynamics; corruption, leadership & followership; Ethical Leadership; Ethics, morality and legality; Public Finance, resource mobilization and management; Public policy cycle and stakeholders management; urbanization and sustainable cities; health and policy; Gender and diversity; Technology and urbanization; Business Model Canvas; Innovation and Managing Change and new venture creation.  Participants were grouped along key tracks such as: Public Policy Management; Civic Leadership and Entrepreneurship and animal energy groups which include the Elephants; Lions and Eagles for effective participation and learning. Here, the participants solved leadership case studies that highlight the importance of teamwork, collaboration, tolerance, reasoning, courage, respect and time management. The young change makers treated the case study of Corruption in La paz-city of Bolivia from the J F Kennedy School of government and leadership simulation exercise to climb to the summit of mount Everest from the Harvard Management school.

The YALI Nigeria Cohort one recorded 150 change makers/young African leaders drawn from seven West African countries of: Nigeria(host), Ghana, The Gambia, Cote d' Viore, Cameroon, Liberia and Sierra Leone who have demonstrated leadership, innovation and community impact in their respective countries. Amongst which are over 100 Nigerians.

The YALI Nigeria Cohort one was organized by YALI Regional Leadership Centre-Accra in partnership with USAID, GIMPA, The MasterCard Foundation, Africa 2.0, University of Notre Dame, Presidential Precinct, Howard University,  Lagos Business School, Microsoft, Atlasmara, IBM and ASCON.

Addressing the press at  the closing ceremony held at the prestigious ASCON auditorium,  the newly honoured YALI Ambassador/recipient of the YALI spirit of leadership award:  Chibuzo Sunday Okereke commended President Obama for his thought towards African youth in establishing the YALI program. He expressed deep gratitude to USAID, U.S Embassy Nigeria and Ghana, Department of state, Africa 2.0, YALI-RLC-Accra, GIMPA and ASCON for their commitment in putting up an excellent organization of the YALI Nigeria Cohort one.

Ambassador Okereke assured the organisers of the YALI project and partners that the participants will exemplify excellent conduct in their daily lives and be a good Ambassador of the program. He said "We came into this program five weeks ago as raw materials but now we have been processed into quality finished product that are ready to be consumed in the educational sector, public policy management, health, politics and governance, business management and entrepreneurship, civic leadership and all other sectors of our national and continental lives". Whilst presenting a take-home document produced by a group of participants on the 150 problems and solutions already been solved by the YALI Nigeria Cohort one participants; Amb. Okereke emphasised that "We are the young Africans who have quit agonizing but have started to organize, speak out and take positive actions on issues of concern in our dear continent of Africa. Amb. At 16 He read his first business book; Rich Dad Poor Dad and the rest is history. He started business at 17years of age selling food supplements by GNLD introduce to him by his cousin. And his first online based Business is selling ebooks he bought for N3000. From there his did dozen more businesses some with little success and some with no success. But he kept fighting. His major inspiration for doing business was his mother. He wanted to succeed to compensate a very hard working mother who denied herself everything just to educate her 5 chilcdren. A day to hosting one of his most successful Student Tradefair on his campus at 5000 level which had cost him 7years. His Mother died of ovarian cancer age 23.

This was the toughest season of his life and business career as his mother had been his main financier. If any one believed in his entrepreneurial skill, it is his mother. Profile of Joseph Osuigwe Chidiebere

Joseph Osuigwe Chidiebere is an anti-human trafficking advocate, educator, author, and gender equality champion. His interests include:  protecting women’s right, contributing to building a world without human trafficking, gender-based violence and violence against children in Africa; peace keeping, providing educational support to vulnerable girls/children; and diplomacy.  He is a graduate of Education Mathematics from University of Nigeria Nsukka and has taught in schools for more than 6 years. During his National Youth Service(NYSC) in Abuja, he taught over 1900 teenagers in 5 communities on how to prevent sex trafficking and violence against women. As part of his community development projects, he published his book titled: “Maximizing the Brain Power” and donated it to 90 secondary and tertiary schools in Imo State, Lagos, and Abuja. He is a 2013/2014 National Youth Service award winner for community project on anti-human trafficking and education. Joseph Osuigwe has led his team to organize World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, World Day Against Child Labour, International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women,  and World Book Day. In 2013, he assisted is empowering 147 survivors of sex trafficking and repented sex workers in Abuja, Nigeria. In 2015, He started The Academy for Prevention of Human Trafficking and Other Related Matters (TAPHOM), to raise young people as advocates who will be in the forefront of combating human trafficking, gender-based violence and other related matters.
