The Academy for Prevention of Human Trafficking and Other Matters (TAPHOM) trains 27 women and youths

DEVATOP CENTRE FOR AFRICA DEVELOPMENT, a nonprofit organization with focus on combating human trafficking, rape and violence against women; on Friday 10th and Saturday 11th July, 2015, inaugurated The Academy For Prevention of Human Trafficking and Other Related Matters (TAPHOM). The inauguration which includes Anti-human Trafficking Advocacy Training of women, youths and educators was held in Abuja, in collaboration with National Agency for Prohibition of Traffic in Persons and other Related Matters (NAPTIP), National Human Rights Commission, African Centre for Media and Information Literacy, and Amplified Radio.

According to Joseph Osuigwe, the Founder/Executive Director of DEVATOP, The Academy For Prevention of Human Trafficking and Other Related Matters (TAPHOM)  is a 21st century  knowledge-based center with strategic approach to  preventing human trafficking, rape, violence against women & other related matters, by training advocates; researching, counseling and publishing educative materials for primary, secondary and tertiary schools. Our Academy, which is the first in Nigeria, will collaborate with relevant agencies and organization to prevent the modern day slavery and other related matters.
He called on youths, women, law makers, media experts, businessmen and educators to have empathy on victims of human trafficking, rape and violence against women and take action to put an end to the evil acts.



Mr. Daniel Atokolo, who represented the Director General of NAPTIP, assured the trainees that their agency is always ready to persecute perpetrators of human trafficking and give hope to victims. He reiterated the interest of NAPTIP to work together with the academy and other organizations in preventing human trafficking in Nigeria.

Speaking in the event, Mr. Chido Onumah, the coordinator of African Centre For Media and Information Literacy, advised the trainees to be proactive in  the prevention of human trafficking.


Blossom Nnodim, a social media expert, taught the participants on how to stay safe online. She advised them to use social media as a tool to create awareness against human trafficking.



The Academy awarded basic certificate course on anti-human trafficking advocacy to 27 trainees.
TAPHOM will commence its second edition of the training (Basic Certificate Course and Advance Certificate Course on Anti-human trafficking Advocacy) in November 2015, in Abuja.
